01 The story, in three paragraphs

Why everyone keeps coming back.

Located in the heart of Rome on Via Volturno, Gran Caffè Giuliani is a charming café and bar that has won over both locals and travelers with its authentic Italian coffee experience and delectable pastries. This café is an inviting haven for anyone seeking a genuine Roman breakfast or a leisurely coffee break in a cozy, bustling atmosphere.

The standout offerings here are undoubtedly the cappuccinos and the irresistible pastries, particularly the cannoli. Customers repeatedly praise the perfectly crafted cappuccinos—creamy, frothy, and robust in flavor—that set the tone for a delightful morning. Nicole Fifer’s heartfelt review captures the essence perfectly: after trying numerous pastry spots in Rome, she finds herself returning to Gran Caffè Giuliani, where each breakfast feels like a little slice of heaven.

Gran Caffè Giuliani’s pastries strike a delicate balance—not overly sweet but full of rich, satisfying flavor. The cannoli, for instance, has been noted by several visitors for its freshness and just-right sweetness, making it an irresistible treat that keeps them coming back day after day. Houcine Benlaib’s spontaneous choice of cannoli turned into a memorable tasting experience described as “yum!” and “very nice and enjoyable.”

Though some visitors note that payment is cash-only, this quaint, old-world charm is part of the café’s character, lending an intimate, community-focused vibe. The staff are consistently friendly and welcoming, easing any minor inconveniences with genuine warmth. José Monroy’s experience highlights how approachable the team is, even with a language barrier, enhancing the overall inviting atmosphere.

For those who appreciate quality coffee and pastries served with warmth and tradition, Gran Caffè Giuliani offers a memorable retreat in the bustling cityscape of Rome. Whether stopping in for a quick cappuccino at the bar or savoring a slow morning accompanied by fine pastries, this spot strikes a harmonious chord between comfort and culinary excellence. You’ll leave with more than just a caffeine boost—you’ll carry a little taste of Rome’s everyday magic.

I was disappointed to see their rating is so low. I love this place. We discovered this place a year and a half ago looking for good cappuccino and pastries. Ate breakfast here every day. We are now back and walk past 7 pastries places to arrive here. Second breakie and I am in heaven.

We took the cannoli and it was nice, only issue is they only accept cash, and never tell you until it is time to pay :)

I was there 3 times and everthing was very good, from a fast capuccino to real lasagna. I speak a little italian and the staff was friendly. I am surprised by the bad reviews.

I visited 5 days in a row for my coffee and cannolis. The pastries are little on the expensive side but the lady at the cashier was always very nice to me. Hence, I kept on going back for the coffee and morning dessert. I always had my coffee at the bar. The cappuccino was always well made - I would definitely recommend it.

Contrary to the negative reviews, I had no issues when I came by to get some pastries before my flight to take home with me. I bought 6 cannoli and 4 other chocolate coated cakes and I was charged €36 and I paid by card. The prices weren’t marked but for me the price was fine, especially considering the pastries tasted great. The ladies that served me were very nice.

Great service. So many sandwich and dessert options to go. Like normal places in Rome, you have to pay more to sit down and eat the food. We got sandwiches to go and ate them at the bar while we drank our amazing coffee. Definitely recommend.
